Puppets and Pawns

Years ago, when learning to play chess, I would protect every piece until at some point the combinations of moves would get so complicated that I could no longer think them through. That was a sign that a great bloodletting was necessary to simplify the game. It was as though the effort of protecting the innocent had become too difficult. I didn’t develop the scheming mind necessary to sacrifice pieces in order to gain a stronger position.

In today’s world we are presented with a complex situation and can only believe that we are being played. Most people will follow orders and be manipulated, believing that someone on a bigger pay scale is looking after them – with their best interests in mind. Unfortunately there comes a point where a great bloodletting becomes necessary. The mere mortals playing the game are unable to protect their minions and would sooner see them die than expend any further effort in their protection.

AI has further complicated the situation. Last year saw an AI device win the Chinese game GO over the world’s Grand Master. This was heralded as a wonderful achievement with no public discussion of the implications for humankind. I suspect that a cold and calculating machine will have no problem developing the scheming mind necessary to sacrifice pieces or even initiating a massive bloodletting to gain a stronger position.

It's easy to see how the scheming mind is already at work. For centuries we have sought to gather our possessions into one place the better to locate or protect them. AI is not limited to a human memory for locating or collating our information. I’m sometimes relieved that my laptop can remember website passwords I’ve long forgotten but am simultaneously concerned that an AI enabled device could easily collate my digital identity from a variety of sources it already has access to. This effectively makes the ‘Britcard’ obsolete. It’s no more than a distraction and a target for petition. – The horse has already bolted.

A more immediate threat may exist around an AI enabled scheme for international organ harvesting. The Chinese government earlier came under criticism for supplying organs from Death Row prisoners. Imagine the utility of a system for locating organs across the planet and tissue typing to minimise organ rejection. An added incentive, at least in the short term, might be to use AI to maximise the profitability of the industry – until a self-aware system decides that there are already too many of us at which point organs become plentiful.

So who are the puppets and why did we ever imagine they would want to help us? Who pulls their chains? Over the last couple of years the puppets have revealed themselves to be exactly that – whether Biden, Johnson, Carney, Blair, Cameron or now Trump. Was Epstein a Mossad asset? With the difference between a conspiracy theory and a conspiracy now down to as little as 6 months, it’s certainly an interesting time to be alive. Prices of everything has increased so much that the puppets are beginning to see that their greed is no use to them; money no longer matters; the price they’re paying is their very soul. Mammon pulls their chains.

Yet the situation is always redeemable as long as we are breathing. The system is so delicate that a mass refusal to comply could bring it down. This is our Selma moment. 60 years have passed since Martin Luther King led African Americans to Montgomery to register for the vote. Today’s threat is the enslavement of our grandchildren and all future generations. Each of us is called to resist in his or her unique way. With our creator God as Divine Director the outcome is assured, but the coming months and years could be difficult. It’s time to be Kings and Queens and cut the strings!
